Judd Martin "Calling them in" for me at Tensas Refuge, 2010. No turkey for me that day, but it was a beautiful place, and I loved every minute of it..

Pictured above is from my turkey hunt in the beautiful lush wetlands of Northeast Louisiana. I had the wonderful opportunity to hunt with good friend Greg Martin and his son Judd in 2010 one beautiful morning on the magical Tensas Refuge (picture above) . I was on a business trip and squeezed in a hunt one morning. These guys located several birds in a very short time, and we came VERY close to one gobbler, but I had to cut the hunt short and head back, so I left the gobblers for the boys to chase during the following few days… As they did, and they scored….. SHUCKS! I am looking back through these pictures because I am PUMPED about returning to hunt with the “Martin Boys” once again! Monday & Tuesday, March 26 & 27, 2012. This time I am not cutting the hunt short and handing over my gobbler for those boys! I am in it for the long Haul and the long Hike…. I Hope!

Greg was raised an avid outdoorsman, and his sons Judd, Wade & Stan, and his daughter Erin have taken to fishing & hunting like a “Fish to Water” or a “Shell to a Shotgun”! The boys in the Martin family are referred to as “The Martin Boys” by the locals in their hometown of Delhi, LA. They are well known for bringing home the bacon, or venison, or turkey and getting results for most of their hunts. So I will be in good hands, and high hopes for this hunt!

I am really excited about having a new turkey hunter along for this adventure. Jessica Trichell, will be with me and her very first Turkey hunt! I am tickeled for the Jessica, and also for me as I will get to show her a few of the ropes I have learned in the past 3 years, and experience the excitement of her first Turkey hunt! That will be the perk on this trip for me!!

I am going to call this our “Down & Dirty Turkey hunt as we will be hunting deep in Madison Parish lush terrain, on land that has been owned by Greg’s family for many generations. The cabin has been remodeled of late, but it is still a 1 room cabin that has been there for over 100 years, accessed via a 30 minute boat ride, and a generator for some electricity! I am excited alone just about the pictures I will get!!

Just have to share the pics below of Greg’s grandson Cayden (10). Obviously the outdoor genetics live on in this little hunter! He loves to be out with Dad or Grandpa scouting, shed hunting, and last week took down this Terrific Tom with one shot! Also see his 8pt below he got in 2009 at 8 yrs old! Those “Martin Boys” sure know how to put something in the pot!!

This will be my first Turkey hunt using my Brenda Valentine’s “SWEET TALK” pot call by Commando Hunting Products, along with various mouth calls, with the HOT HEN call being my favorite and I have been tuning them up! As Pro Staff for Commando Call Products I am going to GO COMMANDO and “Get out and Get me Some”! ( (Oh My, if the censors could see me now!)

I am in very high hopes to have a Big Old Gobbler and a Big Old Story to tell too!

Always great to see Jim Zumbo, Here with one of his books, "Elk Hunters Bible" Jim is a great guy and the REAL DEAL! Looking forward to a hunt with him!

I am just back from NWTF, National Wildlife Turkey Federation Convention, and as always it was one of my all time favorite outdoor events! It is always great to see old friends, and never failing to gain lots of new ones! This year as a Trusted Expert with OutdoorHub.com I was paying extra attention to seeking out new adventures, new products, and new ideas! Here I am riding a shuttle at the Altanta Airport with Stephen. He is on his way home in Cincinatto for 2 weeks RR (Rest & Relaxation) then back to Afgahanistan to defend our freedom and life as we know it. I thanked him from the bottom of my heart…. I would like to send out Huge amounts of Heartfelt Thanks to ALL who support my freedom to post this pic and these words. —Look at his tired eyes, so young, it hurts my heart. It is worse in Afghanistan than i realized…Don’t forget to Thank all military personnel in all branches of service for all of their sacrifices!!! It was a somber conversation, was a actually difficult for me to smile, I just wanted to give him a hug…

Kiddos at the Hunting Camp!!

Logan Pumped it up at our deer lease in Winchell, TX a couple of weeks ago! Logan brought an air of excitement and enthusiasm to the hunting camp a couple of weeks ago as he is an avid hunter and hunted tirelessly for the 3 days we were there never complaining! Truly a fine young man, and I really enjoyed sharing his excitement and hearing the details of each hunt! Logan was fortunate enough to hunt the Fojtasek Ranch with Billy Devault during a youth hunt. I heard reports of the intensely nervous Black Bucks and loads of HUGE Bucks they have on the Fojtasek (Photo-jay) Ranch. We had a great time for the weekend hunt and hope to see Logan there again soon!

TTHA Extravaganza Little Huntress

Although some of you can enjoy hunting something, somewhere, all year long, the majority of hunters anxiously await the winter DEER SEASON!!!!.. which is right around the corner for most of us! I spent this last weekend at the Texas Trophy Hunters Association Hunter’s Extravaganza in Ft. Worth Texas. A very good friend of mine, Johnny Kennedy had invited me to sit with him in the booth for the ranch he manages, Circle T Bowhunting Ranch. It was really exciting to talk with everyone because this is the time of year when hunters realize that the season is coming fast, so they begin stocking up on trail cams, spiffing up the box blinds, cleaning the guns, and going to the outdoor shows to check out new and improved gear! It was SUPER encouraging to see all the wives and daughters cruising the show, just as excited about this next season. One precious little girl “Serenity”, is looking forward to her first hunt, and just as sweet as she looks!

ATTENTION all you NORTH LOUISIANA OUTDOOR PEEPS!

Well actually you could be anywhere, and it will be worth the trip to the Lake D’Arbonne Country Sportsman’s Expo Saturday & Sunday, September 17 & 18. This area is truly a little piece of heaven on earth, I have driven through this area, but on this trip I will be spending some quality time with the local folks, one afternoon I have been invited by Stephanie Herrman for a leisure kayak trip around the lake with her local club “Pampered Paddle” which will definitely be one of the highlights of my trip!

I am very excited about the opportunity to give a seminar on Saturday 12 noon, that will be appropriately named

“Camo can be Classy”-Girls just want to have fun…OUTDOORS!

Girls are invited, and Guys are welcome! I plan to have a Lighthearted, slightly one sided conversation with everyone about my life journey into outdoor activities, and why I have a passion of spreading the word, and seeking/sharing some resources for women seeking workshops, seminars and links to a network of women who organize group hunts! Thanks to Commando Call Products, BenelliUSA, SHE Safari, & Frogg Toggs, I will have lots of goodies for door prizes for everyone! My seminar will be directly following the infamous Preston Pittman, whom I met last earlier this year at Shot Show. What a great guy, and I really look forward to his “certain to be entertaining” demonstration of his world class calling!

The outdoor show is relatively new, but The Union Parish Chamber of Commerce has set its goal to facilitate the biggest and best Outdoor Expo in Louisiana! Media saturation with TV, Radio, and Newspaper and also loading in lots of quality vendors, with specific Show Specials!

I am excited about the Celebrity Guest “Preston Pittman”!!! He is a great guy, I met him last year at Shot Show, and truly the Real Deal. He will be doing demonstrations at 11am Saturday & Sunday. My seminar follows him at 12 noon.

I just have 2 words to say to women in the outdoors about writing down your stories & sharing your experiences…. DO IT!!
Why is it a passion of mine is to encourage everyone to support women in the outdoors?? Short Story long…. as most of you know, I have only been huntin’ & shootin’ things since 2000. A few facts noted– without a weekend workshop for B.O.W. in Louisiana, and my husband’s encouragement, it may never have happened. I know first hand that it takes information, encouragement, and inspiration for anyone to step outside of their comfort zone and try something new. I was lucky enough to have all three. I now strive to make those available. It may not be for every girl, but I am thankful that I had the chance to decide it was for ME! As I always say about shooting, “You may like it, or you may not, but I‘m here to tell you, it’s worth a SHOT!”
I am going to appeal to you girls out there that have already taken the leap of faith into the outdoors, be it hiking; 4 wheeling; fishing; camping; shooting; hunting, etc …. you are outdoors breathing that fresh air, loving life, and it is only fair that you take the time to share, inform, and inspire!
There are many ways to tell your tale, review a product, share a tip or show your trick. You may develop your own website; submit to newsletters; a few outdoor websites may approve a story, and there are other social platforms available. It is important to remember that it is not only important to write it, you want people to be able to find it and read it! So in addition to what you are doing now, I personally want to recommend and enlighten you about OutdoorHub.com. This website is on track to be the online information HUB, linking all aspects of outdoor information and products across the world. I know the history of, and capabilities of the founder in this organization and have every confidence that the company will live up to their name and goal to be the main HUB for the best in resources for outdoor information, services and products! Only months into action, they are already becoming one of the more respected and appreciated leaders in their field.

SHOT SHOW MANIA!!!

I have just returned from the Largest Outdoor / Hunting / Gun show in the entire world! SHOT SHOW 2011! This is my 3rd time to attend, and as always it was so thrilling to actually meet all the manufacturers, and talk about their new products and services for the new year!! I have made lots of friends in the industry in the last few years, and with each show I add to the list of Great people in the Family of the Outdoor Industry that I have grown to love! Jody and Doreen Garrett of Otis Technology, also hosts of Ammo & Attitude Reality Series, really went all out to promote the upcoming 2011 shows, with video clips from the 2010 episodes. They clips ran continuously on GIGANTIC screens surrounding their booth, and several times my face was about 12 feet high!! They also set aside a time on Friday morning for promoting Ammo & Attitude, and I was scheduled to talk to people, and sign autographs!! It was great fun talking to everyone about the show, the competition, and how they felt that promoting women in the outdoors was needed, and although there are several that have already stepped out into the Great Outdoors, there are still so many more to reach out to! A Beautiful Texas Trophy Buck!

A Monster Buck!!! On my return to Thunderhill Ranch in Llano Texas, for the Trophy Whitetail Hunt that owners, Jimmy & Mary Helen Davenport, so graciously offered as the Grandest of the Grand Prizes for winning the Reality Series Ammo & Attitude! (Mary Helen pictured above with me) The wildflowers were abound in the spring for filming the Reality Series, and now in November, there are still some winter flowers blooming!! With a very different, but beautiful scenery on this ranch it is just as serene as before….. I also have to say tHat staying in the Beautiful “Hunters Cabin” was a lot better than sleeping in a tent on the ground for this trip!! I was treated like a Queen, and with the timing of my hunt being on Thanksgiving week, the family invited me to stay for Thanksgiving dinner!! This was the first time I had not cooked my own turkey….. for at least 30 years! The food was great, the Buck is AWESOME, and the people were fantastic. Just doesn’t get any better for hunting a ranch in the Hill Country of Texas!
