My First Successful Bow Hunt! BIRD DOWN!
Posted by Becky Lou on October 22, 2010

After picking up a bow for the first time this last March, and LOTS of practice, in the U.P., while Whitetail hunting, I made a GREAT SHOT!!!!!...on an unsuspecting Turkey! It had been a long three days waiting for a Big Buck, when these Turkey decided to mozy on by. It was getting late, the last day of the hunt, and the decision was to get something for the POT! I was so nervous about moving, and drawing the Bow without spooking the Turkeys, but as soon as I could get one in my sites, I felt good and letteripp! BIRD DOWN! My first attempt to harvest an animal with my Limbsaver Bow, and my aim was True! It was such a different rush than shooting with a gun!! Bow hunting is so quiet the other birds are barely spooked, they all came back around, and one pecked the down turkey on the head! I am not sure of the reason, so if anyone has the answer, please lettuce all know! Fall Turkey Hunting is much different than Spring. Taking a Hen is quite common and accepted, as it is usually better to wait until the Spring to take a Gobbler as he will be in full plumage and much more of a trophy! So here I am with a picture with my hen! I am proud of my first Kill, and although it was not a huge gobbler, it makes me more proud of my ability, as it was a much smaller target!! I love Bow Hunting! You have to be so very close to the animals, it is really challenging, but ExCiTinG!!! Grab a Bow and Go For It!!!
