Let's hear it from the GIRLS!!

ATTENTION all you NORTH LOUISIANA OUTDOOR PEEPS!
Well actually you could be anywhere, and it will be worth the trip to the Lake D'Arbonne Country Sportsman's Expo Saturday & Sunday, September 17 & 18. This area is truly a little piece of heaven on earth, I have driven through this area, but on this trip I will be spending some quality time with the local folks, one afternoon I have been invited by Stephanie Herrman for a leisure kayak trip around the lake with her local club "Pampered Paddle" which will definitely be one of the highlights of my trip!
I am very excited about the opportunity to give a seminar on Saturday 12 noon, that will be appropriately named.
"Camo can be Classy"--Girls just want to have fun...OUTDOORS!
Girls are invited, and Guys are welcome! I plan to have a Lighthearted, slightly one sided conversation with everyone about my life journey into outdoor activities, and why I have a passion of spreading the word, and seeking/sharing some resources for women seeking workshops, seminars and links to a network of women who organize group hunts! Thanks to Commando Call Products, BenelliUSA, SHE Safari, & Frogg Toggs, I will have lots of goodies for door prizes for everyone! My seminar will be directly following the infamous Preston Pittman, whom I met last earlier this year at Shot Show. What a great guy, and I really look forward to his "certain to be entertaining" demonstration of his world class calling!
The outdoor show is relatively new, but The Union Parish Chamber of Commerce has set its goal to facilitate the biggest and best Outdoor Expo in Louisiana! Media saturation with TV, Radio, and Newspaper and also loading in lots of quality vendors, with specific Show Specials!
I am excited about the Celebrity Guest "Preston Pittman"!!! He is a great guy, I met him last year at Shot Show, and truly the Real Deal. He will be doing demonstrations at 11am Saturday & Sunday. My seminar follows him at 12 noon.
before and after the seminar, I will also be visiting with everyone at the "Amacker Stands" booth, so if you're in the area, please come by and say HOWDY!

I just have 2 words to say to women in the outdoors about writing down your stories & sharing your experiences.... DO IT!!
Why is it a passion of mine is to encourage everyone to support women in the outdoors?? Short Story long…. as most of you know, I have only been huntin' & shootin' things since 2000. A few facts noted-- without a weekend workshop for B.O.W. in Louisiana, and my husband's encouragement, it may never have happened. I know first hand that it takes information, encouragement, and inspiration for anyone to step outside of their comfort zone and try something new. I was lucky enough to have all three. I now strive to make those available. It may not be for every girl, but I am thankful that I had the chance to decide it was for ME! As I always say about shooting, "You may like it, or you may not, but I‘m here to tell you, it's worth a SHOT!"
I am going to appeal to you girls out there that have already taken the leap of faith into the outdoors, be it hiking; 4 wheeling; fishing; camping; shooting; hunting, etc …. you are outdoors breathing that fresh air, loving life, and it is only fair that you take the time to share, inform, and inspire!
There are many ways to tell your tale, review a product, share a tip or show your trick. You may develop your own website; submit to newsletters; a few outdoor websites may approve a story, and there are other social platforms available. It is important to remember that it is not only important to write it, you want people to be able to find it and read it! So in addition to what you are doing now, I personally want to recommend and enlighten you about OutdoorHub.com. This website is on track to be the online information HUB, linking all aspects of outdoor information and products across the world. I know the history of, and capabilities of the founder in this organization and have every confidence that the company will live up to their name and goal to be the main HUB for the best in resources for outdoor information, services and products! Only months into action, they are already becoming one of the more respected and appreciated leaders in their field.
Outdoor Hub is actively seeking Real Stories from Real People in various sports, and have a compensation plan with Real Money! They are set on providing more exposure with driven internet traffic, which will help people find and actually read your story! Thankfully they realize that not everyone is a professional writer and have developed carefully written guidelines that have been a tremendous help to me in my efforts to blog, write, and just share in general. Just ask and they are yours. (email:content@outdoorhub.com). These are great people, a wonderful organization, and I am sure that once you begin working with them, you will totally agree. I say these things wholeheartedly and without reservation.
I am sincerely hoping that this information has encouraged and inspired you to begin sharing your stories somewhere.... ANYWHERE!

"Camo can be Classy"
SHOT SHOW MANIA!!! Posted by Becky Lou on February 4, 2011
I have just returned from the Largest Outdoor / Hunting / Gun show in the entire world! SHOT SHOW 2011! This is my 3rd time to attend, and as always it was so thrilling to actually meet all the manufacturers, and talk about their new products and services for the new year!! I have made lots of friends in the industry in the last few years, and with each show I add to the list of Great people in the Family of the Outdoor Industry that I have grown to love! Jody and Doreen Garrett of Otis Technology, also hosts of Ammo & Attitude Reality Series, really went all out to promote the upcoming 2011 shows, with video clips from the 2010 episodes. They clips ran continuously on GIGANTIC screens surrounding their booth, and several times my face was about 12 feet high!! They also set aside a time on Friday morning for promoting Ammo & Attitude, and I was scheduled to talk to people, and sign autographs!! It was great fun talking to everyone about the show, the competition, and how they felt that promoting women in the outdoors was needed, and although there are several that have already stepped out into the Great Outdoors, there are still so many more to reach out to! Click the link below for my pictures with captions from the show, It was great fun, wonderful people, and I am looking forward to lots of things to develop from my new and old friends in the industry! See my Letter to all on my latest Adventures Page for a recap of what 2010 was to me!

A Beautiful Texas Trophy Buck! Posted by Becky Lou on December 21, 2010
A Monster Buck!!! On my return to Thunderhill Ranch in Llano Texas, for the Trophy Whitetail Hunt that owners, Jimmy & Mary Helen Davenport, so graciously offered as the Grandest of the Grand Prizes for winning the Reality Series Ammo & Attitude! (Mary Helen pictured above with me) The wildflowers were abound in the spring for filming the Reality Series, and now in November, there are still some winter flowers blooming!! With a very different, but beautiful scenery on this ranch it is just as serene as before..... I also have to say tHat staying in the Beautiful "Hunters Cabin" was a lot better than sleeping in a tent on the ground for this trip!! I was treated like a Queen, and with the timing of my hunt being on Thanksgiving week, the family invited me to stay for Thanksgiving dinner!! This was the first time I had not cooked my own turkey..... for at least 30 years! The food was great, the Buck is AWESOME, and the people were fantastic. Just doesn't get any better for hunting a ranch in the Hill Country of Texas! Check out their website here - http://thunderhillranch.com/2010/11/26/ammo-and-attitude-winner-with-her-trophy/ for more beautiful Pix and information!
(Below, the beautiful HUNTERS CABIN, is awesome, with a beautiful vew, no expense was spared in all the accomodations!!)
Bruiser Buck for Becky Lou!! Posted by Becky Lou on November 16, 2010
"My Beautiful Bruiser Buck" I took in New York!!
This was a Deer Well Deserved!! Jody (L)) and I hunted every spare minute for 5 FULL days!! Early for the rut, Lots of pics everywhere with the trail cams, but it just didn't seem like we could get close enough to the shooter bucks. The Last Day, at Last Light we decided that this Lucky Buck got a little too close!! I have to tell you that I made the perfect Heart shot @ 130 yards at Last Light with my new browning 243 and Spectacular Swarovski Scope!!!
Jody and Doreen Garret of OTIS Technologies, Hosts of Ammo & Attitude, welcomed me at their ranch in upstate New York, The Lucky Star Ranch as one of the Grand Prizes for being the Last Girl with an Ammo Belt on the Reality Series "Ammo & Attitude" on Versus. Pictured here with me is Jody/Host/Guide/Game Cleaner/Photographer/Teacher/Grandpa/etc, etc. I had a wonderful time at their Spectacular Spread, Thanx again to both of you for everything!
Below I did my part to help rid the area of Killer Coyotes terrorizing the area!
After picking up a bow for the first time this last March, and LOTS of practice, in the U.P., while Whitetail hunting, I made a GREAT SHOT!!!!!...on an unsuspecting Turkey! It had been a long three days waiting for a Big Buck, when these Turkey decided to mozy on by. It was getting late, the last day of the hunt, and the decision was to get something for the POT! I was so nervous about moving, and drawing the Bow without spooking the Turkeys, but as soon as I could get one in my sites, I felt good and letteripp! BIRD DOWN! My first attempt to harvest an animal with my Limbsaver Bow, and my aim was True! It was such a different rush than shooting with a gun!! Bow hunting is so quiet the other birds are barely spooked, they all came back around, and one pecked the down turkey on the head! I am not sure of the reason, so if anyone has the answer, please lettuce all know! Fall Turkey Hunting is much different than Spring. Taking a Hen is quite common and accepted, as it is usually better to wait until the Spring to take a Gobbler as he will be in full plumage and much more of a trophy! So here I am with a picture with my hen! I am proud of my first Kill, and although it was not a huge gobbler, it makes me more proud of my ability, as it was a much smaller target!! I love Bow Hunting! You have to be so very close to the animals, it is really challenging, but ExCiTinG!!! Grab a Bow and Go For It!!!
All I can say is WoW!!! Driving in Rural Michigan I noticed a Hen and several Poults near the edge of the road. This time of year it is very unusual to see such small baby poults, and with winter fast approaching, it will be harder for them to survive. We stopped hoping that I would be able to get up close and personal with them for some pictures! Watch the slide show below to see what happens!! I was thrilled to see that these babies, although very small, just may have a better chance of survival than I thought!
Here I am just tagging along for some Scouting and Baiting for the Bear Season in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. I learned a lot about spotting for Bear Signs, such as Stumps ripped apart for bugs, and Broken Branches of Choke Cherry Trees. The one ABOVE had been broken by a large bear, as shown by the bear claw marks on the limb. A seasoned hunter can "Guesstimate" the size of the bear by the distance between the claws, also by the size of the branch broken off. This branch would have taken a "Bigger than the Average Bear"!! We found several signs at this spot, and once you locate an area where there is some Bear signs, you dump goodies in the area, such as bread, donuts, jam, granola... and if a bear happens to find the goodies, you must keep their attention by adding fresh bait often, every 2-3 days. I am shown here lifting a bag of Granola/Jam mixture to hang in the tree, (shortly thereafter discovering that this is prohibited by the DNR rules and regulations of baiting) so the bag is now on the ground under some logs.... If there is anything I DON'T like to do... it is BREAKING THE RULES!! Which helps me out in the competition on Ammo & Attitude in the next few episodes!! If you havne't been keeping up, you can view past episodes on the website ammoandattitude.com by clicking on Epsisodes. August 29,2010 will be the 5th epsisode, with 6 more to go!! It has been getting Rave Reviews, and viewership is higher than expected!
Jeeping in the Wild Wild West! Just returned from a week in the Higher Elevations of Colorado and the Rocky Trails of Moab, Utah! Lots of pictures here______ but none can truly depict the vastness and the beauty of being there. With our good friend and seasoned Jeeper, "DanTheMan" as our guide and fearless leader, our group of 4 jeeps braved several beautiful trails in Colorado, including Hurricane, Engineer Pass, Cinnamon Pass, Alpine Loop, Animas Forks, Corkscrew Gulch, Black Bear Pass, Imogene Pass, Ophir Pass, with our most difficult trail being the Poughkeepsie Gulch, having to be Winched up a Steep Rocky piece of the road, but it did prove to be one of the most beautiful drives of our trip… Onto Moab, UT for a couple of days, cruising Fins & Things, Potash, Shafer and Deadhorse Point. The trails can be very SCARY and intense, but after actually driving the jeep for several miles of Black Bear and Imogene, my Fear Factor was reduced greatly! Worth every minute!! Our group went on to Hell's Revenge & Poison Spider without us, which were EXTREMELY difficult trails, and without the proper clearance it was just not a good choice!
Recently on a flight, I sat between two young men who are actively defending our freedom. It was a very enlightening experience for me, having had very few "first hand" conversations with our troops. Both having served in Iraq previously, each were on their way to a different destination that day. To my left is Petty Officer Morris, US Navy, from Wapakoneta, OH, returning from a short two week leave on his way back to Afghanistan. To my right is Tony, US Army, destined for "Warrant Officer Candidate School" for continued training as a Technical Expert. Both men were very patient with me and my "Inquiring Mind"!! Answering all of my questions, with the understanding that there are regular people such as myself, that may not have all the details, but who truly appreciate their love and dedication to our country. Thanx Guys for everything you have sacrificed and continue to do in your commitment for our freedom. Thanx again and again and AGAIN! ….from the bottom of my heart.
In the Upper Peninsula of Michigan last week, with the DNRE (Department of Natural Resources & Environmental), while in the process of Banding wild Canadian Geese for management...
Banding Geese
At this time of year the Geese are raising their babies, and are, also, in the latter stages of moulting, so most cannot or will not fly. The DNRE agents locate large groups of geese, usually in the water, then they are herded by kayak or canoe into a make shift pen. They are then carefully banded and released. It was awesome to be that "up close and personal" with these beautiful wild geese!
Michigan DNRE (Department of Natural Resources & Environmental Crew
Nick Brichacek, Waterfowl Representative from Hunters Specialties, brought his camera and documented the day! With approximately 80 geese banded, there was not one single "Goose Attack"! I was amazed, but the Michigan DNRE are very careful and quiet which keeps the geese calm and somewhat cooperative! Here are several more pix on my Picasa Photo Album: DNR Banding Geese
Why does it have to be so HOT when it is time to PICK all the fruits of your efforts? Although my poor garden has been flooded too many times this season with thermal thunderstorms, it has managed to produce, and keep me busy picking in this Horrible HEAT! This year, with about 27 Jalapeno plants, I hope to put up several jars of "Candied Jalapenos"! My favorite new fad food (although it has lasted for about 4 years) I have to have some in my pantry at ALL TIMES!! Growing in my Back Yard this year...Green Beans, Eggplant, Cucumbers, Tomatoes, Zucchini, Yellow Squash, Okra, Jalapenos, Boysenberries, Navel Oranges, Figs, Kumquats, Key Lime, Strawberries, Lemons, and Lots of WEEDS!!!
