Baiting Bears in Michigan! Here I am just tagging along for some Scouting and Baiting for the Bear Season in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. I learned a lot about spotting for Bear Signs, such as Stumps ripped apart for bugs, and Broken Branches of Choke Cherry Trees. The one ABOVE had been broken by a large bear, as shown by the bear claw marks on the limb. A seasoned hunter can "Guesstimate" the size of the bear by the distance between the claws, also by the size of the branch broken off. This branch would have taken a "Bigger than the Average Bear"!! We found several signs at this spot, and once you locate an area where there is some Bear signs, you dump goodies in the area, such as bread, donuts, jam, granola... and if a bear happens to find the goodies, you must keep their attention by adding fresh bait often, every 2-3 days. I am shown here lifting a bag of Granola/Jam mixture to hang in the tree, (shortly thereafter discovering that this is prohibited by the DNR rules and regulations of baiting) so the bag is now on the ground under some logs.... If there is anything I DON'T like to do... it is BREAKING THE RULES!! Which helps me out in the competition on Ammo & Attitude in the next few episodes!! If you havne't been keeping up, you can view past episodes on the website ammoandattitude.com by clicking on Epsisodes. August 29,2010 will be the 5th epsisode, with 6 more to go!! It has been getting Rave Reviews, and viewership is higher than expected! What do YOU have to say! Write it here...!
