About Me
My Outdoor adventures began just a short time ago, with a weekend B.O.W. 'Becoming an Outdoors Woman' workshop in year 2000, a nationwide program, this one was facilitated by the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Educational Dept. I was feeling a little adventurous and wanting to try something new, so for one of my many classes, I chose -Intro to Shotgun- I had never shot firearms of any kind. The class was preceded by a detailed Firearm Safety classroom course with some firearms for hands on learning, followed the next day with skeet shooting, accompanied with Fantastic Patient Expert instructors, (all of which quieted the voices inside of me shouting NO NO NO You're a Girl! Its gonna hurt!) I hit the second clay target, and thus began my passion for Shooting! I absolutely I LOVED it!! I have always loved to fish, sharing many hours with the only outdoor influence in my life growing up, my Mom, Tommie Lou. We spent many hours in the Freshwater Marshes of SW Louisiana, and also pulling in huge Redfish, Speckled trout & Flounder in and around the salt water lake "Big Lake". I always joke that we had to use our "Running Lights" to get out to the fishing spots, and we had to also use the "Running lights" to come in, as we would spend the entire daylight hours with our poles in the water, the days were always too short. That was the limit to any outdoor activity for me, but shortly after my "Shooting Incident"....I met my husband Lou, and was introduced into hunting, starting with a west Texas whitetail hunt, and my life took a drastic turn from "Inside" to "EXTREME OUTSIDE"!! Without a doubt, I am all girl, I don't like bugs, critters, or Snakes, but because of my willingness to Take a Chance, I have learned that a little DIRT..or even or a TICK (yes i said tick) will not keep me from this new adventure! With the first hunt of my life being shortly after the workshop, I understand first hand the skepticism that some women have to step outdoors, and I believe that most women just need to know of the resources available to them, and a little nudge of encouragement. I have been fortunate to have both, for without it I would not be doing what I am today. I have been blessed with a lot of energy and enthusiasm that just seems to spill out onto everyone around me, I love people and Lord only knows how I like to talk.... and over the past few years I have met several great people in the industry, who have encouraged me to use my story and excitement to help promote women into the outdoors! This has given me many opportunities and as it all unfolds, I just hope to bring awareness to women and children alike, and somehow make a difference. My message is that if you are curious about ANY outdoor activity, Go for it!! Frightened of Firearms? It could be that you just haven't had the right instruction, it may not be for you, but it's worth a Shot! Curious about Hunting, Shooting guns or bows...try it... AT BEST, You will be enlightened, have a few adventures, make some new friends, and possibly discover the little kid that may be hidden inside of you, that is ready to go out and play!! AT WORST,You will decide that it's just not worth a Tick ! I think that everyone should look at life as a "Journey". You will never stop learning, there will always be a new destination, so always keep you mind open, and talk to anyone you know. One thing I have learned about Outdoor People, they all have a story, and they want to give you every detail! The letter below recapping my year 2010 should bring you up to speed on where I am headed from here! A Letter out to all my friends in the Outdoor industry with some details about my VERY Eventful year--- 2010! (also on my Latest Adventures Page with Pictures) 2010 was a year filled with excitement and adventure, from Jeeping the rugged terrain of Colorado and Moab, UT, (with ME actually behind the wheel for some of those Scary Hairpin Curves!!) and lots of hunting opportunities with several "Firsts" for me! My hunting began early spring by collecting a gorgeous gobbler in the Upper Peninsula (UP) of Michigan, onto a Trophy Black Buck from the Hill country of Texas, an upstate New York bruiser buck, and a magnificent 16-point Texas Buck from the Hill Country. Not to forget my first BOW kill with a turkey from the UP of Michigan, my FIRST Duck Hunt in the Lush Louisiana Marshes, and lots of fishing and varmint / predator huntin to boot! The most exciting part of my year, was the opportunity to compete with five other women, on a new outdoor reality show/series for VERSUS Network called, AMMO & ATTITUDE. I was initially approached in February by the producers, who presented the show's agenda to me as a friendly competition among women who enjoyed the outdoors. Their goal was to produce a show that encouraged women to take it outdoors, which has been my own personal goal and passion for more than 10 years now. The competition included different outdoor challenges, including kayaking, canoeing, rock climbing, archery, shotgun, rifle, hunting, fishing and much more. The filming of 11 episodes began in May, and with a quick editing turn-around, the show began airing at the beginning of August. The series ran with 11 fresh weekly episodes, and when the competition was completed and the winner announced, re-runs began airing twice a week for another 11 weeks, for a total of 22 straight weeks, and a grand total of 33 broadcasts! The show was VERY successful, and the excellent ratings have prompted VERSUS to sign Ammo & Attitude for five (5) more years!! This is extremely exciting for me personally... for as the cookie crumbled and the dust cleared, I was the last one standing, and proclaimed the WINNER!!I have always been game to try most anything, blessed with a positive attitude, a pretty good shot with most firearms, a rule-follower for sure, and I don't give up easy!! Being the oldest of the six contestants, I'm especially proud of my accomplishments! I am certain that my achievements will be an inspiration to all women. I love reminding everyone that it is never too late in life to try something new outdoors, and what better story to stress that very point! Doreen and Jody Garrett, of OTIS Technologies, (hosts and major sponsors of Ammo & Attitude) arranged for an autograph signing at their booth at Shot, in an effort to promote the coming seasons, that was really a Blast!!! All of the episodes can be viewed online by going to www.ammoandattitude.com and click on "Episodes". Another Grand Highlight of my year, was to be accepted as part of the Commando Hunting Products ProStaff, now on staff with Ed Johnson, who took me on my first Turkey Hunt in 2009. (Story on Latest Adventures Page) I am very honored and proud to be considered a part of the crew, and extremely excited about the efforts they have made to support women in the industry, with several accomplished outdoor women on staff, "Go Commando!" “Camo can be Classy”TMOne Responses to "About Me" What do YOU have to say!
